A plan to revive the historic downtown and link its archaeological sites

The Governor announced the strategy during a tour of the Ibn Nabih cistern and the Roman theatre, with large parts of the city centre to become pedestrian-friendly.

Governor Ayman Attia announced an integrated strategy to revive historic downtown Alexandria by linking its archaeological sites to one another, particularly around Nabi Daniel Street.

The announcement came during a field tour that inspected the Ibn Nabih cistern — three storeys underground and still structurally sound — and the Roman theatre area, attended by the district head, Eng. Iman Abbas.

The plan turns large parts of the city centre into pedestrian-friendly areas, creating an environment attractive to cultural, commercial and leisure activity, and the Governor called for a study, with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, on turning the cistern into a tourist and cultural site.
